JUST BE

For many artists the desire to create supersedes some of life’s more practical aspects like paying the bills, landing that 9 to 5 job, or simply putting food on the table. The sayings that come to mind are not affluent artist and courageous creative but starving, desolate, and crazy. Even in this age of multitudinous genres and forms, think street art, collage, digital, abstract, photography, conceptual and the see-all, be-all, multi-disciplinary artwork, I have watched parents noticeably balk at the idea that their child pursue a career in art. It is the rare, free-spirit who would whole-heartedly encourage an impressionable protege to a lifetime of financial struggle and unknowns in hopes of securing a coveted position in the artistic canon and a space on a museum wall. Still, the alternative is even more bleak, a life spent stuffing down one’s creative nature in order to succeed in our even crazier and often cruel, modern world.

BUT DO, TOO!

but do, too!
see and be seen

To create and see one’s visions come to life is like cooking and eating the most sumptuous of meals and yet a recipe is often needed to achieve optimal results. As an artist myself, I take great joy in connecting other artists with each other, the greater art world, art appreciators, and a lifetime of contacts and travels. For me writing and curating provides both a window to share my knowledge, a sort of thinking mediation, but also in translating an artist’s sometimes complicated vision to a wider viewing public. I am particularly interested in what is coined “Outsider artwork” but I like to think of this term a little more loosely, not necessarily those who are ‘untrained’ artists (I welcome artists of all backgrounds), but namely to provide a space, an online presence, a curated vision for those who may not have these tools available to themselves (and/or would like to take part in a larger community). Just as a world without art would be the saddest of dreams, art left unshared is like that beautiful meal sitting untouched and cold on the counter.

Seeding a creative space

Art is like the seed to the flower, both need a space to grow. As I grow my own vision, I hope you will come along on the journey. Please take some time to look over my Submission Guidelines and reach out with any questions. As the platform takes shape, I’d like to offer my diverse creative background as both a sounding board as well as my skills as a potential advisor. Please consider my site a safe space for intellectual freedom and creative integrity.

Sowing it all together!

Seeds sowed in my garden. . .projects and ideas I will be planting over the next while: My Art Wall (I’d love to share my own photos and visions from my travels and day-to-day meditations); Mail Art Forward (a chain letter, art for art’s sake project I can’t wait to bring to manifestation. . . so much fun); snippets and hopefully a full release of my first novel, Panda’s Box. . . anything you’d like to grow? Get in touch! and remember: Art is Life and Life is Art.
